General
Pissouri is a seaside
village
located in
Limassol
district (Cyprus)
between Limassol and Pafos towns. Pissouri's administrative area forms
the third biggest in Limassol district. The main settlement of Pissouri
is situated about three kilometers away from the bay (named
Cape Aspro),
and is built on the side of a green hill. The settlement, strangely, is
placed in the middle of Pissouri's territory.
The geographical position of
Pissouri Village
Local products nowadays
are tabled grapes, wine, potatoes and other citrus fruits in smaller
quantities planted across the valley spanning from the gulf to the hill,
where the settlement is. There are also many olive, carob and almond
trees. Unfortunately, during the last years, farmers had to eradicate
big part of their vineyards, as they became profitless. Further to
that, residents of the village tend to sell out the properties for
economic reasons as the recent rapid development that occurred during
the last decade has created such circumstances.
About
the village
Pissouri's main
settlement (village) is truly on of the most picturesque village in
Cyprus. Settled on a hillside, it overlooks the beautiful greenery of
vineyards and fields. Centred exactly between Paphos and Limassol it can
be used as the ideal base to visit both towns, Limassol and Paphos.

The village of
Pissouri is one of the most attractive and friendly villages in
south-west Cyprus. It is situated in the principal vine growing area
with sultana grapes
(table grapes)
covering the surrounding
countryside. This southeast-facing
village, set high up on the hillside about 240 metres above the sea,
commands the most magnificent view of about 35 km of Mediterranean
coastline. To the south and east
there are panoramic views of the coast, across vineyards, olive and
carob trees and to the north one can see the majestic Troodos Mountains.
Pissouri is situated just off the main Paphos to Limassol road.
Pissouri Village has a
lovely flower-filled central square accessed for pedestrians only.
Circumferentially
of the square, there are plenty of shops, taverns, restaurants,
supermarkets, banks as well as public services such as the Village's
Hall, the post office etc.
On the Western edge
of the central square, a
Greek Orthodox Church
built on the top edge of the square, forms the absolute symbol of a
traditional Greek habitat and a well-distinguished landmark for
foreigners.
In the village you can
also find a bread bakery, confectionery, coffee-shops, and many relative
services that make your life easy.

In Summer time the
central square becomes the No1 attraction point for locals and visitors
as it is the most vibrant place of the village. Various festivities,
folk parties and cultural events, come together to compose a unique
public realm where everyone can have fun, eat, drink, dance, sing etc.
In particular, every Wednesday, a spectacular 'Cyprus Night' is hosted
in the central square (Pissouri Square Tavern).
The food, drink, environment and of course the prices are unsurpassable.

In Pissouri village,
where almost everyone speaks English, one can enjoy the friendly
atmosphere and savour the relaxed and stress-free life of the village.
About a five-minute drive
from Pissouri Village is one of the most famous monuments in Cyprus.
Aphrodite's Rock (or Petra Tou Romiou) is said to be the
place
where the Goddess Aphrodite was born from the foam.
In the picture, which is taken from a
promontory overlooking the bay (where there's always a welcome ice cream
van!), the Rock is the further of the two, jutting out into the sea.
It is lovely to
swim there, though it can sometimes be a bit rough.
Secret Valley Golf Course
is located a bit further than Aphrodite's Rock towards Pafos city.

About
Pissouri Bay area
Pissouri has a
beautiful unspoilt bay, about 3 km from the motorway (turn off at
Pissouri Bay) and about 3km from Pissouri Village, down the vineyard
beach lane. Pissouri Bay is blessed with 2 km of sand & shingle beaches
surrounded by a generous helping of white cliffs and sweeping vineyards.
Pissouri is the ideal location for total peace and relaxation.

It is safe for
swimming and the beach has
the EU blue flag for cleanliness and provided services. There is sand to
the left of the beach and a mixture of sand and pebbles to the right.
There are water sports available
(water-ski, banana boat, paragliding, sailing, snorkeling, wind surfing
and jet ski). For a fantastic view of Pissouri Bay, or to explore the
coastline, pedalo and Laser dingies can be hired. For a small fee one
can hire sun loungers and umbrellas on the beach. The beach also has its
own lifeguard.
There are several
tavernas on the fringe of the beach, offering good food and refreshing
drinks. Small shops sell fresh
milk, bread, fruit, wine and other provisions. There is an excellent
hotel where non-residents can use the restaurant and for a small cover
charge also swim in the hotel pool.
There
is also a bank branch and an ATM machine in your service.
